BuyJust seeing a padlock in the address bar is no longer enough. By clicking on the padlock icon in the URL bar you can verify the identity of the website owner. Unfortunately, most phishing sites today have a padlock and a DV certificate. That's why it's important to look beyond the lock in the URL bar. If a website is not willing to put their identity in the certificate, you shouldn't be willing to share any identifying information with them. If you see the organization's name, now you can make a better decision about who you trust.
An SSL certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates a website's identity and enables an encrypted connection between the website and its users, allowing for secure data transmission. This encryption helps protect sensitive information, making SSL essential for websites, especially those handling personal or financial data.
An Extended Validation (EV) certificate is a type of TLS/SSL certificate that verifies that the certificate holder has undergone the most extensive level of vetting and identity background checks to certify that their website is authentic and legitimate. EV certificates are often required for high-profile brands, banks and other Fortune 500 companies. Extended validation means the certificate recipient and their website have completed a 16-point check to verify details such as: website domain, website owner, and the applicant’s legal, physical, and operational existence and identity. DigiCert is the global leader in in issuing high-assurance EV certificates with approximately 59% of all EV certificates issued for the internet provided by DigiCert and its partners or subsidiaries.

The difference in coverage of www and non-www hostnames is determined by the technical features of a particular SSL. Single-domain and Wildcard certificates we provide support coverage of both www and non-www domains. Multi-Domain Certificates consider www.example.com and example.com to be two different domains.
A Wildcard SSL certificate is used to secure unlimited sub-domains within the same level that share a common base domain. For example: A Wildcard certificate issued to *.mydomain.com can be used to secure the following domains: login.mydomain.com, secure.mydomain.com, support.mydomain.com, www.mydomain.com etc. Along with multiple subdomains, a Wildcard SSL will also secure the bare domain mydomain.com. more info
